Vision Coverage

Group vision coverage provides annual eye exams and an allowance for frames, lenses, and contact lenses. It's used by the majority of employees every year and is one of the lowest-cost benefits to add to a package — making it a high-value-per-dollar addition to any benefits program.

What You Need to Know About Vision Coverage

Annual Eye Exams
Vision plans cover one comprehensive eye exam per year — detecting vision changes, screening for conditions like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, and updating prescriptions. For employees with corrected vision, this is an annual routine that your plan makes accessible.
Frames and Lenses Allowance
Plans provide an allowance for frames and prescription lenses, typically $150–$200 for frames and full coverage for standard lenses. Contact lens allowances are typically equivalent and can be used as an alternative to glasses.
In-Network vs. Out-of-Network
Vision plans have preferred provider networks — VSP, EyeMed, and Davis Vision are common — with the best benefits at in-network providers and reduced out-of-network allowances. Verifying that your employees' preferred eye care providers are in-network is important for plan selection.
