Recreation Equipment Coverage

ATVs, snowmobiles, UTVs, and other recreational equipment stored at vacation properties need coverage that's structured specifically for their use — not assumed under the property policy or a personal auto policy. Each type of recreational vehicle has specific coverage needs and policy forms.

What You Need to Know About Recreation Equipment Coverage

ATVs and UTVs
All-terrain vehicles and utility terrain vehicles are typically excluded from homeowner policies and require separate ATV/UTV endorsements or standalone policies. Coverage should include physical damage, liability, and medical payments — and should address both on-property and off-property use.
Snowmobiles
Snowmobile coverage is available as a standalone policy or endorsement and should cover the snowmobile year-round — including summer storage losses. Liability coverage is particularly important given the speeds involved and the serious injuries that snowmobile accidents can generate.
Equipment Storage
Recreational equipment stored at your lake property — in a garage, shed, or outbuilding — may be covered under the vacation home's personal property coverage, but sub-limits often apply. Reviewing what's stored and confirming adequate coverage limits prevents underinsurance surprises.
